Subaru owners are fortunate to have unique and dependable cars that need little more than regular maintanace.
There are a few operations that require or could use engine removal to make the job easier.
Cam belt/water pump/oil pump replacement, clutch replacement and head gasket replacement come to mind.
All non-turbo Subaru engines in Legacys, Imprezas and Foresters, 1.8, 2.2 and 2.5s are nearly identical in mounting and removal with only small differences between them.
I have made a 33 minute, real-time video of the removal of the 2.5 NA engine in my 1993 chassied Subaru rally car.
It has the sounds of the work and a voice-over describing the tools used, reasons for the work performed and some tips and cautions.
Viewing the video will cost $5.
There are some requirements:
The video will be distributed using a "Slingbox" over your computer.
You need Windows 2000 or XP
You will need DSL or Cable
You need to download the Slingbox software which is a Zip file so you need to be able to deal with that.
You will need to use www.paypal.com to get me the $5 to:
rzimmer@adelphia.net
Still with me?
Download the software at:
http://www.slingmedia.com/support/downloads.php
When you get the software loaded, you need to select the option that the Slingbox is already configured.
You will then configure the Slingbox, add the "finder Code":
B3B4D5E3-2BCD-AD488664-0139-F2C5D160
Write me at rzimmer@adelphia.net and ask for a password.
Enter the password that I sent to you after reciept of Paypal payment.
Other than a large download for the software, this is real easy.
It will run a diagnostic - pick the screen that looks best, if that doesn't work, run the other. One will work - really.
When everything is set up, hit the top arrow on the "remote" to start the tape.
The controls will run the VCR in my room and broadcast TV to your computer!
You will be able to watch and rewind and watch again
(using the virtual remote next to the viewing box on your computer screen)
for 24 hours.
